Celebrating 9 years

It’s been 3,285 days that we have been a stand for transformation in Santa Barbara, California.

As I reflect on these thousands of days of holding the space for yoga in Santa Barbara, I’m grateful for everyONE who has trusted my vision for what I wanted to create.

Courage is my super power and this leap has taught me more about support, friendship, love, dedication, commitment, fear, blind spots, my weaknesses and strengths and my growing edge than I ever could have predicted.

For every teacher that allowed me to lead the PoYO ship, thank you. It didn’t always turn out how we expected, and yet the storms we have gone through have spit us out having grown in ways we never envisioned. For all the students who walked thru our doors, tuned in on your computers and/or said yes to being outdoors with us so we could push, play and expand together, thank you. 🙏🏾

We constantly have the opportunity to evolve whether we want to or not and those that have been in this journey with me for even a minute have committed to evolution and contributed to my growth. You have helped call me up to God’s purpose for my life. Thank you.

This is a photo from 2011 when I taught my first classes requiring payment. Kyle Visin Jason K. Smith Shannon Visin and Ian Chapman (tagging Jane Chapman). not pictured in this - Dan Rudd Michael Martz (helping me paint, and finding this beautiful space) and Tamara Berndt. I love you so much.

Right now, more than ever, I’m reminded to not despise the days of small beginnings as you have been by my side since day 1, cheering me on and believing in what is possible.

None of us has any certainty about the future, and we have proof that the past happened...and we are all better for it.

In celebration of 9 years getting our Om on. Let’s keep at it. We all need to move energy, breathe with more ease, repair relationships (especially with ourselves on the daily), and have people who want to do this work with us. We are rebirthing the studio right now. The birth canal has been tight, tumultuous with a steady amount of hemorrhaging this last year. You know me, I don’t sugar coat things. Straight up honesty - another super power.

During a moment of realness this last week, my sister said to me, “You aren’t a quitter.”

No, I’m not a quitter - and in figuring out what I’m not, I’m continuing to make space for who I am.

I’m a fighter. I’m competent, capable and passionate. I am grateful, supported, cared for and loved.

We all are.

Now, get out a notecard. Join me in this practice:

  1. Use my affirmation or write a new one that affirms you with gusto.

  2. Pick out a song that sets your soul on fire and makes you want to dance like Hugh Grant in Love Actually.

  3. Each morning, turn on the song, pull out your notecard and sing your affirmation out into your home, your car, or outside. Make people think you’ve gone mad.

  4. Then flow into the day as the badass you are.
